I was born in Gippsland, Victoria and my family moved to Queensland in the early 1970s. I spent my childhood in regional Queensland towns including Beerburrum, Longreach, Kilcoy and Caboolture.
In my late teenage years, I moved to Brisbane and spent seven years in the city. The yearning to go north lead me to Townsville, where I spend three years learning more about life and myself.
In 1994 I discovered my love of the Mackay Region where I continue to live to this day with my wife, Karen and our dogs Jed and Abby.
As a child, I struggled in the education system and left school at 16 years of age to discover my own ways of learning.
My innate curiosity about business, leadership, the human mind and how to live a good life has resulted in a life of discovery and personal achievement.
I commenced working in leadership roles when I was 18 years of age and later became a company CEO.
I got my first job in the Community Sector in the mid-'90s, and I felt like I had found my place in the world. I started as a hands-on frontline worker, moved to middle management and then became the CEO of a Community Housing Company.
I love to learn and doing things that connect me with the community. Through this connection, I have gained a diverse mix of skills and experiences including; Leadership, Corporate Governance, Corporate and Personal Coaching, Business Planning, Advanced Diploma in Community Sector Management, Diploma of Business and Workshop/Meeting Facilitation.
I was humbled to be the 2016 AIM Community Sector Leader of the Year.
Over the past 25 years, I have had the privilege of:
